#tryalpha

West End to host Alpha starting March 19

What's Alpha?

Alpha is a series of interactive sessions exploring the basics of the Christian faith.

Each session looks at a different question, and is designed to create conversation. No two Alphas look the same–they run in coffee shops, churches, bars, prisons, universities, schools and homes.

There’s no pressure, no follow-up and no charge; it’s just an open, informal, and honest space to explore and discuss life’s big questions together.

What to expect

Food

Whether it’s a group of friends gathered around a kitchen table, or a quick catch-up over coffee, food has a way of bringing people together. It’s no different at Alpha. All sessions start with food, because it’s a great way to connect, relax and build friendships.

Talk
The talks are designed to be engaging and inspire conversation. Usually around 30 minutes long, they explore the big issues around faith and unpack the basics of Christianity, addressing questions like “Who is Jesus?”, “Why and how do I pray?” and “How does God guide us?”

Discussion
Probably the most important part of any Alpha: the chance to share thoughts and ideas about the talk without being corrected or judged. There’s no obligation to say anything; it’s an opportunity to hear from others and contribute your own perspective.

How can I find out more?

Kidzone

Kidzone is our teaching and worship time for children.

We want to give children a positive experience of church. We teach them how to have a relationship with Jesus, to learn Biblical truths, and to put their faith into practice in their daily lives.

NOTE: All Kidzone workers are screened for safety.

Ages 0-3
Nursery Service

Our nursery is open during our morning service.

Miss Donna, our nursery coordinator, cares for our little treasures each week with the help of our volunteers. When you leave your child(ren) in the nursery, you are provided with a pager so that you can be contacted if needed.

Audio of the morning service is available in the nursery

If you feel more comfortable keeping your child(ren) with you during the service, our Kid Zone 2.0 space, located at the back of the sanctuary, has a selection of toys and activities.

Community Outreach

Halifax Chinese Alliance Church

The Halifax Chinese Alliance Church has a heart for reaching and serving the Chinese community in Halifax. They meet for worship (in Cantonese and English) every Sunday at 1:30pm at West End Baptist Church.

For more than 30 years, we have appreciated their partnership in the gospel.

Sunday Suppers

On the second Sunday of the month, we volunteer at Sunday Suppers, held at St. Andrew’s United Church on Coburg Rd.

This outreach to the less-fortunate people of Halifax began 25 years ago, as a way to put into practice Jesus’ words about being kind to those who aren’t able to return the favour (Luke 14:12-14). It is our privilege to be able to contribute to this valuable inter-church ministry.

For more details, please contact the church office.
